, Ohio: This year marks the 8th anniversary of #DyngusDayCleveland
(occurring April 2nd, 2018) and event organizers are anticipating the biggest celebration to date. What is #DyngusDay
Here is the 411 about this incredibly unique #PolishCommunity
based city wide festival according to ClevelandDyngus.com:
Dyngus Day, or Wet Monday (Polish Śmigus-Dingus or lany poniedziałek) is the name for Easter Monday. Historically a Polish tradition, Dyngus Day celebrates the end of the observance of Lent and the joy of Easter. Over the decades, Dyngus Day has become a wonderful holiday to celebrate Polish-American culture, heritage and traditions. In Cleveland specifically, our goal is to not only make this a Polish Cultural festival, we also want to celebrate our Polka Heritage as well as the other Eastern European cultures still thriving in Cleveland.
This year they made the festival grounds larger on Detroit Ave. and West 58th – Cleveland Dyngus Headquarters – in the #GordonArtsDistrict
and they polka’d in the streets with great #food
and #beer #vendors
alike!…estimated over 30,000 people celebrated Cleveland Dyngus 2017.
Why it POPS:
Think Saint Patrick's Day but with extra CLE-QUIRK. During this city wide celebration, the streets come alive with the color red as tens of thousands come out to celebrate. Armed with squirt guns and pussy willow branches; attendees join together to create a unique buzz of Cleveland Pride and Polish and Eastern European celebration.
The celebration spans the downtown area with the epicenter taking place in the Gordon Square Arts District area near Cleveland’s favorite #hotdog
. More merriment can be found on West 25th street with drink specials and special Polish food delights with modern day twists. The #Tremont
area also offers many places to check out during the day.
