So, no fancy picture today, but a freakin fancy bottle 🤡 Today was @plhoweh 28th birthday, and he opened this marvellous independant bottling, single cask, Highland Park. •
@w.m.cadenheads is the oldest independant bottler from Scotland. It is regarded as a very premium independant bottler, and most whisky fan (ok...whisky geek) fight to have some of their bottlings. •
So this bottle is from Highland Park, is bottled Cask Strenght, has natural colour and is matured in an ex-Sherry cask.
It’s colour is stunning, having a deep and dark amber. It’s nose is very treacherous : it smells Sherry all over the place, with hints of old fortified wine and eau-de-vie, and a banana like texture. The mouth is definitely Sherry, bit more subtle with crisp cooked nuts, spices and dry fruits from North Africa and dark chocolate. It’s subtle and well balanced, with the alcohol playing a game of hide-and-seek : punchy yet not agressive. The final is long with a decrescendo of the mouth flavours. •
This Highland Park is a big WOW ! I swear if PL wasn’t a friend, I would have tried to steal this bottle. The price is not as subtle as the flavours, but it’s worth every penny !
